Bottoms Up to This Year's Super Bowl 01-17-2005

Well I'm writing today as a happy Bostonian after watching the Pats beat the Colts. It's hard to believe as a sports fan and as an advertiser that the "Big Game" is only a few weeks away. Being the ad geek that I am, I get excited for the commercials. The buzz has been a bit quiet so far, but I anticipate it to get louder this week.
What Do You Do When Your Client Is a Four Letter Word 01-10-2005

"By now you've heard me and my fellow writers on the Spin talk about bad sales reps and agency folk. But why doesn't anyone ever talk about bad clients? Oh, they're out there and I'm sure you either currently have one or have had one in the past."
Seana's Holiday Hot List 12-20-2004

"I write to you as many of you have begun your Hanukkah, and Christmas is a few days away. I know it's hard to focus on insertion orders, time sheets, expense reports, and a whole stack of paperwork that needs to be in by year's-end."
Porn on the Run 11-01-2004

"Much has gone on prior to this lovely Monday morning: The Sox winning the World Series, Bin Laden's latest freaky video being aired on the news, Halloween, and a cluttered landscape of political advertising."
Taking a Bite out of Cyber Crime 10-11-2004
http://www.brand-truth.com/article.php?art=11-Oct-04
"I've been to a lot of industry events lately. Seems like no matter what the topic is everyone still says fresh dynamic content is key."
Not Sexy But Cool 9-13-2004
http://www.brand-truth.com/article.php?art=13-Sep-04
"Greetings. I'm back from the long weekend. I hope you had a good one. It does seem as if it were a long time ago though. I don't know about you, but this past week seemed to kick into high speed for me. A lot seems to be happening. The fall is upon us and conferences are popping up all over the place."
Nimble or Needles 2-8-2004

"How do you determine if your brand (or the brand you are working on) is strong? Perhaps it is tracking studies that show trust and loyalty. How does this fare to a customer base or market share? If the group of loyalists is shrinking, is brand strength diluted?"
Where are you Going Spider Man? 5-10-2004
http://www.brand-truth.com/article.php?art=10-May-04
"Being in the online space, you have to nod your heads when I ask if you think we get slammed for "intrusiveness." To me, the offline world is suffering from microfragmentation of media. For instance, take a look at ads in any major city."
Unnerved by Young Men 1-8-2004
http://www.brand-truth.com/article.php?art=08-Jan-04
"Forget holiday spending and outlooks, you've read them several times by now. What had the biggest impact in advertising of 2003, you ask? It seems the coveted group of men 18 to 34 plummeted in regards to TV viewing this past year."
Sticks and Stones 11-24-2003
http://www.brand-truth.com/article.php?art=24-Nov-03
"Parents, teachers, and the school administration at large have been able to stop bullies in the schoolyard. However, there is a new breed of bullies and these folks can't do all that much to stop them. As a result, there's a new term out there called "cyber-bullying." It involves computers and digital devices."

"I sit on the board of a local organization called Boston Interactive Media Association (BIMA). Last week we had an event entitled 'Demystifying Search Engine Marketing'."
Love Is Still in the Air 2-18-2003
http://www.clickz.com/media/agency_strat/article.php/1584521
"Valentine's Day may have come and gone, but love is still in the air. Just when I thought I'd heard everything about our wacky online world... this came in. Are you sitting down? Leading dating site Match.com has partnered with none other than a telecom company."
Has Advertising Sold Out? 2-11-2003
http://www.clickz.com/media/agency_strat/article.php/1581891
"What the heck happened to advertising? I'm not sure if it's the absolute clutter or that Americans are traveling headfirst into a sound-byte mentality."
Done With Football? 2-4-2003
http://www.clickz.com/media/agency_strat/article.php/1580661
"Last year I got a lot of flack for writing a column titled "The Boring Bowl?" Unfortunately, I must again rate the big game a big snooze."
Say What You Want, It's Still the Leader 1-28-2003
http://www.clickz.com/media/agency_strat/article.php/1575121
"Everywhere you look on the Net, the content is all about the big game, bombs in Iraq, and the AOL turmoil. For a moment, there was buzz about the Golden Globe awards. Then it was back to football, war, politics, and, once again, AOL."
Mile High Net? 1-21-2003
http://www.clickz.com/media/agency_strat/article.php/1572021
"As a media person, I'm constantly challenged with determining the psychographic attributes of target audiences. Luckily, there's one characteristic that most every target has in common -- they travel, for either business or pleasure. Even better, online media planning tools such as @Plan allow planners and publishers to cross tab any demographic with 'travels.'"
Wanna Partner? 1-14-2003
http://www.clickz.com/media/agency_strat/article.php/1568601
"My day job is heading up a small online media group out of the Boston area. We just won some business, which makes us the object of attention of a wide variety of sales reps. It's a small town, so most of the folks seeking to meet with us are from the New York area. Since they're making a trip, they tend to schedule meetings around a few industry events here. You know the event drill: Too many phone calls, meetings, and requests for meetings, lunches, dinners, and so forth. What's a gal to do?"

"I belong to several message boards that focus on various aspects of advertising, marketing, and the Internet. Often, I'll get fodder for this weekly column from these forums."
